Supported Chart Types

The below table details supported Charts in Solver.

While Excel has a vast number of chart formats, Solver supports the following list. As a best practice, its recommend to test your chart with a simpler data sets before working with your entire data set. Some things to consider when testing the charts that you want to create.

    1. Start and keep it simple, advanced chart styling may work in Excel but not in Solver.
    2. Charts should reference data on the sheet that they will be displayed on
      • If you need to reference data on another tab, you must use indirect formulas as part of your data selection.
    3. Chart data should be kept in one area of the report.
      • The data area being referenced in the chart configuration should be a simplified version that is only of the data to be displayed. This makes it simple to make changes to the report that then quickly reflected in your template.
      • It is recommended to keep the chart data to the far left side of the report, use Excel’s group feature to hide this data, and below all displayed charts.
    4. Named Ranges are typically not supported in chart data references. When referencing the data a chart will display, you should select the entire, expanded grid of data and not the “design mode” range, plus one cell over and under.
      • Another trick would be to create two lines of the data that you plan to chart. The first line will be filtered for all data except the last row. The second line will be just the last result that was filtered out from the line above.
    5. A couple of cool chart-setting tricks.
      • When mapping the data and axis data points, click Advanced Settings and uncheck “Show #N/A as an empty cell”. Disabling this will prevent your chart from mapping data points that render blank or calculate to an error.
      • Make sure to enable “Show data in hidden rows and columns”
