Retrieving the Original Excel Report Once it Has Been Corrupted

Contents

This article details how to retrieve an original Excel file after it has become corrupted. If the report was saved before the corruption occurred, it may be possible to restore that old save. This will not always be the case, but it is best to check before rebuilding a corrupted report from scratch.

Method:

To attempt to retrieve the pre-corruption file, follow these steps:

  1. From the portal, select the report in question and click Edit in Report Designer.
  2. Once in Excel, go to File > Info. At the top, you will see a path like the one shown below. Click Open file location.
  3. Once you are in the file’s folder, click OSR in the address bar to back out one step.
  4. You will likely need to do a search for the file name in this OSR folder to find where the older file is located. It is based on the last time that file was saved.

If the steps above do not work, then you will have to recreate the report from scratch. We recommend creating copies of your report designs with version numbers in case something gets corrupted. This way you will always have an original to fall back on.
